Sunday Insight...

The end is here! This Sunday we are going to be concluding our Gospel Proof series and I KNOW that God has saved the best for last!

We are going to be looking at Paul and the impact that His relationship had on EVERYTHING that He did. This weekend think about this quote -

God is NOT looking for nibblers of the possible, but grabbers of the impossible!
Make it an AWESOME weekend!

What do you want?

Has anyone ever asked you that question? In unison we can ALL say of course, but have you ever thought of it in a spiritual sense? We all say
  • we want to be more like Christ
  • we want to be a part of a ministry that is MAKING A DIFFERENCE
  • we want our children to come to know the saving grace of Jesus

and on and on we could go, but have you ever thought about this question...

Are you simply content with just knowing the ACTS of God, or do you want to KNOW His WAYS?

In Psalm 103:7 it says, "He made His ways known to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel." Today as you go about your day think about this simple question, What do you want, to know the WAYS of God or simply see what He is doing? Today go DEEPER, seek to KNOW the WAYS of God and not simply be a witness to the GREAT and MIGHTY things that He is doing!

Have you ever thought HOW you can change the world?
When Apple Computer's co-founder Steve Jobs approached John Sculley, Vice President of Pepsi about coming on board with Apple as Chairman of the Company, he asked Him this question, "Are you content to spend your life selling FIZZY WATER or do you want to CHANGE the WORLD?"

This Sunday we are going to be diving into one of my favorite books - Nehemiah. I promise this will be a service that you will NOT want to miss. Go ahead and start EXPECTING God to show up in a HUGE way!

An AWESOME Cause...

How many pair of shoes do you have? Last week as I set in what I thought would be another typical meeting, my ears perked up as one of the ladies began to speak of a children in Jamacia that had NO shoes and immediately my mind went back to an article that I had read earlier in the day about a friend that I had gone to college with and the organization that she is now working with called, Soles 4 Souls. Long story short is simply this - I looked in my closet this morning and counted 20 pairs of shoes that I have (and I don't wear them all!) I encourage you to take a few minutes check out the site www.soles4souls.org. Before you go there check out this video -

What Are You Focusing On?

Yesterday as I opened God’s word and began to read from Numbers 20, my ears perked up as I could hear that little voice inside beginning to speak, and as I turned over to read my daily devotional I saw it - that AHA moment. Here is what I read…
It is easy to see why Moses became frustrated with the Hebrew people. They were so hard-hearted and weak in their faith that Moses lost his patience and became angry with them. Yet every time Moses shifted his focus away from God, it cost him. When he sought to help his people by taking matters into his own hands, he spent the next forty years herding sheep in the wilderness (Exod. 2:11–15). This time his impetuous behavior cost him the opportunity to enter the Promised Land (Num. 20:12). In his frustration at the peoples’ irreverence, Moses committed the very same sin, blatantly disobeying God’s instructions. How did this happen? Moses allowed his attention to shift to the behavior of others rather than focusing on the activity of God.
Over the past several months as we have been in the midst of a building project, growing a church, and casting vision for the upcoming year, I’ll be the first to admit that I have often allowed my attention to focus on the BEHAVIOR of others and not the ACTIVITY of God. My prayer for myself, my family, my church, and my friends is that we would become SO FOCUSED on the word, the activity, and the voice of God that NOTHING could distract us!

Sunday Insight...

Do you know what this Sunday is? Mother’s Day! A day that we gather together with family to celebrate all that our mothers have meant to us. Here is a preview of what is coming up this Sunday at CBC…

“Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation.”

C. Everett Koop

Using 2 Timothy 1:3-7; 3:15-17 we are going to look at the opportunity that has been given to us

as parents
as families
as a church
to fulfill the “Special Mission” that we have been given to RAISE UP a generation that will RADICALLY change the world for Christ. God has CALLED us, He has given us the VISION, and now it is OUR TIME as a church to EMPOWER families so that they can CHANGE the world!

I am BEYOND excited about Sunday! Get your family and friends here Sunday as we CELEBRATE and WORSHIP the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! See you Sunday!

Stop...Look...Listen

This is a question that I am thinking through right now -

Do you fear change more than you fear God?

Over the past several weeks I have been wrestling with some things that have really caused me to stop (what I was doing), look (at the family, ministry and vision that I have been blessed with) and listen (to the voice of God). It was during my quiet time that I realized this is a question that I HAVE to answer if I am going to work through this part of my spiritual journey. I have a choice – I can PUSH through it and learn nothing or I can WORK through it and WRESTLE with it and literally get EVERYTHING out of it that God has for me.

If I am going to be the LEADER, if we are going to be the CHURCH that God has CALLED us to be then we must challenge ourselves, and wrestle with the simple question which do I fear more - God or Change?

A Challenging Thought

Have you ever had an AHA moment? I did recently as I was reading Exodus 19:1-6 during my quiet time. The verse that really hit me was v.4. Then my devotion offered this thought…

“We are so activity oriented that we assume we were saved for a task we are to perform rather than for a relationship to enjoy. God uses our activities and circumstances to bring us to Himself. When He gives us a God-sized assignment, its sheer impossibility brings us back to Him for His enabling.”

Did you read that first sentence? Our PASSION, our JOY, our HEART’S DESIRE should be to STRENGTHEN and GROW our relationship with our Savior. What are you doing today that will produce NEW FRUIT in your relationship with Christ?

My Teacher of the Year

Last night I had the honor and privilege to attend the Lexington District 1 Teacher of the Year(TOY) celebration with Amanda. Amanda was being honored for being the TOY for Pelion Middle School, but she was also one of the 5 finalists for District TOY. Out of the 5 teachers that were being considered Amanda was the youngest and has only been teaching 8 years. I was honored to stand beside her last night. She is ALWAYS there standing beside in the ministry that God has called US to and for me last night was fun to get the view from the other side of the fence if you will as I got to see her in the spotlight. She did a phenomenal job representing Pelion Middle school and I am so proud to call her my wife!!

PS: Amanda didn’t get named District TOY of the year, but she is definitely #1 in my book!
